Busy doing everything, still too quiet
Many small business owners work hard on marketing and still feel the phone is too quiet. Usually the issue is not effort. It is a leak somewhere between a customer finding you and a customer choosing you. Here are nine common leaks, how to spot them and what to do.
Signs 1 to 3: people find you, then leave
1. Lots of profile views, few calls or direction requests
Spot it: your Google Business Profile performance screen shows views but few actions.
Fix: people are looking and not convinced. Check your hours, add recent photos, and reply to reviews. Make sure your description says what you do and for whom in the first line.
2. Website visits that bounce straight off
Spot it: visitors leave the homepage quickly.
Fix: run the 5 second test on a phone. Put your main button and a clear headline at the top. Check speed: Google research found 53% of mobile visits were abandoned when a page took longer than three seconds to load.
3. Price questions before every booking
Spot it: the first message is always "how much?"
Fix: show starting prices publicly. People who never ask simply leave.
Signs 4 to 6: your reputation is working against you
4. Your newest review is months old
Fix: start asking every customer. Most people check for recent reviews. See how to get more Google reviews.
5. Unanswered negative reviews
Fix: reply to every one, calmly. Future customers read your replies more closely than the complaint. Templates here.
6. A social page that looks abandoned
Fix: you do not need daily posts. Two good posts a week that show your real work are enough to prove you are open. See how often to post.
Signs 7 to 9: customers come once and disappear
7. Most customers are new, few are regulars
Fix: collect contact details with permission and send a reason to return: a rebooking reminder, a seasonal special, a thank you. Read 12 ways to bring customers back.
8. Nobody refers you
Fix: happy customers rarely refer without being asked. Ask, and make it easy, for example with a card they can pass on.
9. You cannot say why people should choose you
Fix: write one specific sentence about what makes you different, and use it on your Google profile, website and social bio. If you compete only on price, someone will always be cheaper.
